25 March my last day of my internship

The 2 weeks of internship passed quickly. I am very happy that I could do an internship here. 

What did I gain through this internship?

I learned to deal with crowds, communicate effectively, divide tasks, technical skills, emotional adaptability and much more. The most valuable skill for me would be the experience itself.

What was the best part of my internship?

The best part of my internship was that I gradually became part of the team, even if only for a short time. I had also helped many people which makes me warm inside.

Tips if you have to do an internship for the first time

-  don't stress

-  arrive punctually at agreed times

-  wear formal clothes

-  always be friendly

-  remember that everyone makes mistakes sometimes

-  ask questions if you don't understand something

24 March

Today in the afternoon my class teacher had to come by for an evaluation meeting. I was a bit nervous but my internship mentor was happy with me so I wasn't under too much stress. 

The weather was good and I had to stand at the reception. I had to do check out and check in. I liked this because I was already working on it and could do it well. There were a lot of people from the Netherlands this time. It was very busy today because all rooms are fully booked for the coming week. They were here because there were several big cycling events organized somewhere in Harelbeke and in Ghent. 

23 March

Today I had to receive and welcome the customers again behind the reception. To be honest this was one of my favorite task I had to do. It's fun to do it because it was varied and there were different people every time.  I gave the clients the keys to their rooms. I answered their questions about breakfast times or different sights and gave them a map if necessary.

22 March

 I had to print a few documents and then sort them by date. It was good in the beginning but then after a while I got tired because I don't like sorting by dates. After the lunch break I was allowed to answer emails about reservations and other matters. My boss did that so there is more variety. After I answered all the emails I had to sort again. 

21 March: last week of my internship

One more week to go on my internship. Today the weather was very nice and there were some guests who asked me where they could find a terrace. I had to stand at the front desk and answer all their questions. I gave them a map with all the sights and places where they could eat. When it was less busy I had to answer the calls. For example, for a reservation, a booking or cancellation or to change the date. To be honest it wasn't that much but it was quite stressful. Because you don't see those people in front of you.

17 March

Today, was like yesterday, I had to welcome people to the reception desk and give them the keys to their rooms. It was very busy because it was Friday. There were a lot of people from Germany in our hotel for a business trip. I was very nervous because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to understand them. But in the end everything was fine. I tried to be as friendly as possible to the customers. I was very exhausted this week, but thought this was a very good experience and I hope to learn more next week. 

16 March

Today it was something other than classifying and sorting which I really liked. My boss had to leave and I had to replace him at the reception. I had to welcome customers and do the check in and check out. I had to give them the keys of the room. In the beginning it was a bit difficult to put all the data into the computer and to find everything about every reservation.

15 March second day of my intership

 On my second day is there little to tell. It was all day classifying and sorting invoices and bills for me just like yesterday afternoon. There was no variation in it, it was the same all the time. I hope the next few days there will be a little more assignments and a little bit more variety. 

14 March first day of my intership

Today is my first day of my internship. I slept well and dressed well and formal. My internship is only 4 minutes from my house so I could come on time every morning and I was able to sleep long every morning. I had no longer to depend on public transport, which made me very happy.

What should I have done in the morning?

It all started very simply. I had to check every room in the hotel and note what was missing and whether the telephones and TVs were working. Then I had to write down the numbers of the rooms where something is missing or something is not working. I wrote down the numbers of these rooms in the hotel's system and I had to describe what was wrong.

What should I have do in the afternoon?

In the afternoon I was allowed to go home for my lunch  because I live close by.  I had to classify invoices and the bills. It was complicated in the beginning but it was much better the next time.

13 March: One day before the intership started

I was very nervous because I didn't know what to expect at my internship. I was afraid that I might do an assignment or a task wrong or that it would be too difficult. 

I prepared everything well so that I could start well. I have chosen my formal clothes and laid them out. I prepared a little bit mentally if you can call it like that. 

Intro

Hi everyone welcome to my blog. My name is Maya Makarova. I'm a pupil in Guldensporencollege Kortrijk that undergoing Secretariat - language education program. This is my final year and on this blog I will describe my experience during my 10-day internship in a hotel. 

Where will it be?

To be honest I have been struggled to find an internship placement. I had been everywhere looking for an internship but no one answered or they didn't need anyone. Then my mother advised me to go to Parkhotel because she thought they needed someone with language skills. In the end she was right I was allowed to do an internship at Parkhotel Izegem.
